- Smart Expense Groups (Early Access, Brex Essentials)
Brex AI recognizes when you’re on a trip - whether or not you booked it on Brex - and automatically organizes related transactions together with the ability to view and edit expenses in bulk.
Grouped expenses will have a preset memo populated based on your trip details for one less step per expense to think about. More details to come later. - Smart Expense Routing (Early Access)
For users who are using multiple spend limits and the employee card limit, if Automatic Limit Selection is enabled the Expense Router uses AI to auto-assign every transaction, ensuring expenses are assigned to the right category and limit without additional manual work from employees. Learn more about it here.
Purchasing and Payments
- P-Card (Brex Essentials)
Our purchasing cards are designed for operational spend with a built-in card limit and can be virtual or physical. You can now streamline procurement by issuing purchasing cards within spend requests, enhance accounting with card pre-coding, and ensure spend continuity on recurring spending during personnel changes. Learn more here. - Card Limits for Employees (Brex Essentials)
Employee cards now feature built-in limits, enabling immediate team spending without manual configuration. Employee cards are ideal for daily travel and expense (T&E) spending and can be used with an employee’s card limit. With the introduction of card limits, employees also no longer need to request a separate spend limit to view travel inventory. Simply have employees select their card limit when searching on Brex travel. If your company's card limit policy allows, they'll also be able to book. Learn more about card limits here. - Separation of Payments
Payment dates are now optional when creating bills, allowing AP teams to schedule payments separately from bill approvals. Bills without a payment date are moved to For Payment when approved and can then be paid. - Batched Bill Pay (Early Access, Premium, Enterprise, Smart Card)
Batch payments allow you to group invoices by due date, entity, or currency and combine them into a single outgoing payment. - Purchase Orders (Early Access, Premium, Enterprise, Smart Card)
Purchase Orders (PO) enable better control, tracking, and delegation of operational spend. By first issuing a PO and sending it to the vendor, Finance teams won’t get surprised by incoming bills. This will allow you to track incoming invoices against what you’ve agreed to with your vendor.- Create and Send
Admins can now easily manage POs from the Vendors page. Create a PO, view open POs by vendor, and send them directly to the vendor from Brex with a single click. - 2 Way Match (Bill <> PO)
Track your Purchase Orders (PO) with ease. We'll automatically match bills to the correct PO using header information like vendor, amount, and dates. You'll also receive a warning if a bill is about to exceed the PO's available balance.
- Create and Send
- Universal Request Intake (Early Access)
For many growing companies, employees from across the business are involved in operational spend and the Finance team can’t be a bottleneck in creating POs or purchasing cards directly. Employees need the ability to request operational spend but still have the right level of controls and approvals.
We're improving Request Types functionality. Now, a request can generate a Purchase Order or Purchase card, in addition to the existing Spend Limit. Employees can now use a single intake process for all spend requests. This simplifies the process for employees, who only need to request the spend, without needing to understand the underlying complexities of how the spend is processed, which is handled by the admin. - Configurable Data Downloads
Configurable data downloads allow you to view and download your data exactly how you need it. You can download your customized tables as either CSV or XLSX files.
With this update, you can:- Access the data you care most about: Gain visibility into all relevant data fields, including newly added and previously unavailable ones.
- Customize how you view and download your data: Configure table views to show the exact data fields you need with advanced filtering and column selection, and easily download your filtered data.
- Save and re-access your most-used table views: Quickly access your custom filters and column selections with saved views, eliminating the need to rebuild them every time.
Additionally, fields from the legacy expenses CSV/XLSX download are now available as configurable columns within the Expenses table. This functionality is currently supported in the Expenses, Team, and Vendor tables, with plans for future adoption across all tables in Brex. Learn more about this feature here.
Note: If you want to recreate your legacy Expenses download while taking advantage of the new customizable features, you can follow these steps.

Controls
- Policy Engine (Early Access)
Manage all spend types within a single, modular policy that reflects how your business operates. Start with built-in sections for Travel, Benefits, and more, designed to match common real-world spend cases. Easily tailor policy rules to each without starting from scratch.- If-This-Then-That (IFTTT) Rule Builder
You can use our Policy Engine to create flexible rules that follow if-this-then-that logic. Each rule is made up of two key parts.- 1. Expense condition (the “if”) - This is the “if” part of your rule - the criteria that an expense must meet. You can set simple or complex conditions using attributes like amount, expense category, vendor, employee role, or custom fields from your HRIS.
- 2. Action (the “then”) - This is the “then” part of your rule - what happens when the condition is met. These are automatic enforcement steps that Brex will apply in real time
- Any Field Can Be Used to Build Rules
You can now create rules using custom fields as conditions, and requiring them in actions. Additional conditions include spend limits, and line items on bills.

- If-This-Then-That (IFTTT) Rule Builder
- Custom Roles for Everything (Premium, Enterprise)
Give your team exactly the permissions they need—and none they don’t. With added support for custom roles for billing, banking, redeeming rewards, bill pay, and travel, you can get more granular control over admin roles.- Customize access: Define granular role-based permissions tailored to your organization’s needs, now across even more product areas.
- Enhance security: Protect sensitive data with role-specific access controls, ensuring users only access what’s necessary.
- Streamline user management: Assign custom roles directly within user invite flows and policy configurations for a more consistent experience.
Learn more about this feature here.
- ERP Accrual Support for Bills
You can now choose to sync your bills at bill creation. With this, bills submitted now automatically accrue in your ERP. We'll update them upon approval and payment, ensuring your books remain accurate. Learn more about this feature here. - Vendor Owners (Early Access)
Any employee can be designated as a vendor owner by an account or card administrator, AP clerk, or bookkeeper. They serve as internal contacts for vendors and their associated bills. Their responsibilities include onboarding, documentation, and continuous monitoring to ensure an up-to-date vendor list, with every action tracked in the vendor audit trail. Vendor owners can also be set as the default bill approvers in your policy, allowing them to validate bills before the AP team's review and approval. Learn more about this feature here.
And So Much More

Admins, you now have a powerful new way to manage travel! The enhanced booking table provides a real-time view of every employee booking. Enjoy seamless access and better control over your company's travel. Learn more about this feature here. - Bill Pay External Payment Method Support
You can now select “Pay outside of Brex” as the payment method to make it clear you are paying outside of Brex while still leveraging your approval chains. Learn more about this feature here. - Higher Treasury Return
