Help with your Brex credit limit
Overview
Your company credit limit, or account limit, is the maximum amount that all of your team members can spend. How you determine the amount each team member spends is up to you, though cumulatively it can’t exceed your company’s credit limit.
Once you’ve been issued a credit limit, you can read through the sections below to learn how to increase and maintain it to ensure no business interruptions take place.
If you need to take any action to maintain a stable credit limit, we’ll notify you by email.
View your credit limit
Account and card admins can check their company’s limit at any time by following these steps:
In your dashboard
Step 1: Click Accounts on the left side of your Brex dashboard. Step 2: Under Credit, you’ll see your limit listed on the right. The amount you have left available of your overall balance is listed on the left.
How to maintain your credit limit
We want to help you maintain your credit limit so your business activities aren’t interrupted. Brex changes credit limits when account activity suggests that you may become unable to repay the balance. Additionally, Brex can change your credit limit at our sole discretion based on violations of our platform agreement, a Terms of Service violation, or our determination of risk. Below are ways to maintain your credit limit:
Fixing any errors
Navigate to Accounts > Credit to view potential errors:
Payment overdue
- If your automatic statement payment fails or is reversed, we'll email you with a prompt to correct the issue. If you don’t arrange an alternate payment, your account limit may be changed to $0. First find out why your payment might have failed, so it doesn’t impact you again. You can then make a new payment to Brex to settle your statement.
- To make a one-time payment, see instructions in this help article.

Incomplete financial information
- Connected bank accounts: Even if you have connected a bank account, it might be out of date or has lost connectivity. We can’t issue you a credit limit during long periods of staleness because we need visibility into your company's cash balance.
- You can fix this by either connecting a bank account or switching to statement underwriting.
- Bank statement overdue: We’ll proactively email you when we require you to submit bank statements. The frequency of submission depends on your credit profile. Be sure to submit your most recent bank statements as soon as you can.
- To resolve, please submit statements by clicking your name in the top right corner of your dashboard > Statements and Documents. Here you can see any requested bank statement uploads.
- Connected bank accounts: Even if you have connected a bank account, it might be out of date or has lost connectivity. We can’t issue you a credit limit during long periods of staleness because we need visibility into your company's cash balance.
Giving us visibility to another external account
If you’re using our Brex card with monthly payments product, your limit is typically determined by the cash balances or cash flow from your connected bank accounts. Giving us visibility into more of your funds by connecting an additional external bank account is one way to positively impact your credit limit.
Uploading bank statements
Providing additional bank statements with visibility into more of your funds can be an alternative option to maintain your credit limit if you cannot connect your bank account. For more information on uploading statements for underwriting purposes, refer to this article.
Adding funds to your connected accounts
If you have accounts connected to Brex already, adding funds to your external account can help maintain your credit limit. If you give us visibility into your external account via a direct connection, we should see your updated balance shortly. If you’re giving us visibility by uploading statements, you may need to upload an up-to-date statement, even if your upload date hasn’t come due yet.

Increase your credit limit
We understand that your business needs may change and there might be times you need to spend more than your credit limit allows. There are a number of ways that you can request a higher credit limit. Please reference the relevant section below.
Credit limits are dynamic by design and are adjusted on a regular basis depending on your company's spending patterns, cash balance, and sales.
Daily payments
The credit limit for your Brex card with daily payments is determined primarily by the funds available in your Brex business account. External bank accounts connected to your accounts connected to Brex won’t impact your credit limit.
Your limit consists of the total aggregate balance in your primary checking, treasury, and vault accounts. To increase your limit, initiate a transfer from an external bank account into your primary checking to increase your account balance to your desired limit amount.
Monthly payments
Credit limits for Brex cards with monthly payments are designed to provide you with a reliable limit.
To maximize your limit, maintain a strong payment history and ensure your financial information is complete and up to date. An account or card admin can request a limit increase once every 30 days from their Brex dashboard.
Step 1: From your Accounts tab, go to Credit > Manage limit > Request higher credit limit. You can also click Manage > Credit Limit Increase next to Credit. Step 2: Provide details on the amount and reason for the request and review your financial information. We’ll recommend a cash amount for your requested credit limit. Note: The details pane will update once your request has been reviewed—usually in one or two days.

If you’re making monthly payments and don’t qualify for a limit increase, there are other steps an account or card admin can take to make your current limit go further.
Make an early payment
Making an early payment will decrease your current used spend. This gives you more available spend that can be used during your current statement period.
For example, if your account limit is $100k and you’ve used $30k, your available spend is $70k. If you make an early payment for $20k, once the payment clears, your limit will be $90K prior to your statement coming due.
You can initiate an early payment by following the steps in this article and selecting whether you want to use an external bank account or Brex business account as a payment source. Payments made from an external bank account can take 3-5 business days to clear and must be fully processed before your limit will be adjusted.
Brex business accounts for card spend capacity
If you have a Brex business account, you can use it as a funding source for a statement payment. To make a payment from your Brex business account, follow the steps in this article and select your Brex business account as the payment source. Using a Brex business account, you can either make an early payment for any amount, or a statement payment on your statement’s due date, provided the account has enough funds in it to cover the entire payment. If you choose to make a payment that does not cover your statement balance, the remaining balance will automatically be processed on your statement’s due date.
Unlike payments from external bank accounts, early payments made from a Brex business account clear instantly.
Automate early payments
To avoid maxing out your available spend before your statement period ends, you can set up automatic early payments to go through whenever you reach a designated percentage of your balance.
Change your automatic payment frequency or statement cycles
If none of the above work for you, an account or card admin can reach out to Brex Support to set more frequent payment cycles for your company.
Redeem points for card spend capacity
If you don’t have a Brex business account, an account or card admin can redeem your Brex points for statement credit. Putting your points towards statement credit will free up more room right away.
If you do have a Brex business account, you can instead redeem your points towards cash back. When you receive the cash back, you can apply it towards an early statement payment. Since you’re making the payment from your Brex business account as opposed to an external bank account, the early payment will process immediately.
