## Overview

A spend limit is designed to cover and track any type of company spend, including travel, procurement, and stipends. Spend limits can be spent via employee and limit card, depending on the spend type, as well as reimbursement, or bill payment. To learn more about available card types, see [this help article](https://www.brex.com/brex-card-overview).

You can allow employees to request a spend limit. If the request is approved, the employee can spend using any method available to them. Your employees can have multiple spend limits assigned to them for all necessary types of spend.

When creating a spend limit, account or card admins can _choose additional rules to apply_ to control spend for that particular spend limit. Before making a purchase, employees can _View policy _to quickly see the rules for their spend limit, which are automatically enforced for transactions.

You can designate a team member(s) to manage spend and take actions like approving incoming spend limit requests from other employees.

**Note:** You can add that same team member to the spend limit as a user, too, if they need to make related purchases.

## View spend limits and associated cards

As an employee, you can view your spend limits or [switch the spend limit assigned](https://www.brex.com/spending-on-spend-limits) to a card by clicking _View all spend limits and cards_ from _Wallet._

### For Essentials

<!-- plans: Essentials -->

As a card or account admin, you can view all spend limits from the_ Cards and Limits _page _> Spend Limits_ and select filters such as limit types, status, or users. Under _Limit type_, you can confirm if the limit is a single spend limit shared by one or more users with a total amount to spend, or a spend limit group for multiple users with different amounts.

To view all cards that are associated with a spend limit, click on the spend limit to open the spend limit detail window, and click _View all cards_ under _Member cards_ on the right.

### For Premium and Enterprise

You can click the down arrow to the left of the budget name to view the hierarchy of nested budgets and spend limits. Under _Limit type_, you can confirm if the limit is a single spend limit shared by one or more users with a total amount to spend, or a spend limit group for multiple users with different amounts.

To view all cards that are associated with a spend limit go to _Cards and Limits._

### Track the status of a pending spend limit request

If you submitted a spend limit request and it hasn't been approved yet, you can check its approval status from your _Tasks_ page.

**Step 1:** In your Brex dashboard, go to _Inbox_ > _Tasks_.

**Step 2:** Select _Requests_ to see all pending spend limit requests you've submitted.

**Step 3:** Click on the request to view its current approval status, including which approvers have acted and who is next in the chain.

**Note:** The _View all spend limits and cards_ button in _Wallet_ only shows spend limits that have already been approved and are active. Pending requests will not appear there — check _Tasks_ instead.

As an admin, you can download a record of your team’s spend limits directly from the _Cards and Limits_ page as a CSV or XLSX.
