Powering the world’s most ambitious companies
Over the past seven years, Brex has built a unique payments infrastructure to support customer operations in more than 200 countries and 60 currencies. But our global expansion has faced a key constraint: we could only offer Brex to companies with a US presence.
That changes today.
Brex is now licensed to serve customers directly in the European Union, in all 30 countries, making us the only intelligent finance platform with licenses in both the US and EU.
Nearly 60% of Brex customers already operate in more than one country leveraging our existing global capabilities. Now this number will multiply as we can unlock the power of Brex for over 200,000 Europe-based companies like IKEA, Deliveroo, and Volkswagen.
The holy grail of global payments
We believe Brex’s operations in the EU will be a game changer for how European businesses manage spend. Today, European-only spend management platforms have very limited product capabilities to serve global enterprises, while US-based competitors rely on third parties, support only a handful of currencies, and ignore local payment needs. With Brex, our global payments infrastructure supports customers in more currencies and countries than anyone else.
This EU license also expands our already robust global payment capabilities. We can now directly issue commercial credit cards and originate payments, including direct debits and credit transfers in the EU. No third-party intermediaries, no borrowing payments licenses, and no workarounds required. Just direct, locally issued cards in local currencies with the acceptance rates and seamless experience our customers expect.
Ooni, the global leader in home pizza ovens, is already running their operations across the UK, Germany, China, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, and the US on Brex. Mark Topping, Group Finance Manager at Ooni, told us: "One of the attractions of Brex was its global platform. It's one system employees can use regardless of where they are. The team has really embraced the cards and the overall Brex platform because it's so easy to use."
This is what every global business needs and what we're now bringing to European companies.
How we plan to operate in Europe
Brex has major offices in the US, and is excited to announce that we have now established offices in Amsterdam, with a full board and local teams across sales, operations, and customer success. Team members are already on the ground today, with plans to scale as we grow.
We’ll start onboarding select EU-based customers in the coming months, with plans to steadily expand access across the region throughout 2026 and beyond. This phased approach ensures we maintain the quality and reliability our customers expect while scaling into new markets.
Next, we have our eyes set on expansion into the UK.
Helping EU businesses spend smarter and move faster
Most European startups hope to one day expand to the US. With an EU license, we can now onboard companies earlier, help them launch faster, and grow with them anywhere. We're not just adding another region to our coverage map. Our hope is to fundamentally change how global businesses think about their global operations.
The combination of our infrastructure investment and this new license creates an even deeper reason to use Brex. Competitors can't replicate this overnight. It takes years of building, regulatory work, and operational excellence to serve companies at this scale across borders.
For the global founders and finance teams we serve, this is just the beginning. The future of business is global, and Brex is building the intelligent finance platform to power it.
