5. Issue cards to your team

  • Issuing a physical or virtual card
  • Transferring cards with recurring spend in the event of personnel changes
  • Replacing cards

Issuing a physical or virtual card

When a new user joins, they'll get an invite email. Once they sign up and log in, they'll be prompted to order a physical employee card. If they skip this step, they'll automatically get a virtual employee card for online purchases and to use with digital wallets. In addition to employee cards, users can have access to limit cards that are permanently assigned to a spend limit.

Admins can also issue a card for them by going to the Cards and limits tab, selecting Issue card and issuing a physical or virtual Brex card from there.

Transferring cards with recurring spend in the event of personnel changes

If in the future you are looking to transfer ownership of any cards with recurring spend, an account or card admin can transfer ownership of these cards to an active employee. To ensure security of the transferred cards, replace the purchasing card by following the steps in this article. Recurring spend on transferred cards will continue without action.

You can optionally turn on auto-transfer when issuing cards or spend limits, to auto-transfer cards if the cardholder is deactivated.

Step 1: Locate the card on your Cards and Limits page. The current card owner doesn’t need to be active so long as the card itself is.

Step 2: Click the three dots and choose Transfer card ownership. Review the initial card details and click Continue.

Step 3: Choose the new card owner and click Continue. The new card owner cannot be a bookkeeper or have reimbursement-only access.

Step 4: Review your selection and click Submit.

Step 5: The card credentials will remain the same, but future card expenses will reflect the new owner’s name. Any recurring spend on the card will continue without action.

Note: Offboarding alerts on the Team page will display any cards that have been used for online purchases within the last year for a deactivated user, and you can optionally transfer any cards that have not been transferred already.

Replacing cards

When replacing a card, you can choose to keep the same card number, depending on your replacement reason. The CVV and expiration date of your card will be updated regardless of your choice. Recurring spend will continue without action. For more information, refer to this help article.
