Introducing spend limits

What's new

This article refers to a feature that might not be available in your current Brex plan. If you'd like to learn more about this feature and how to unlock additional capabilities in Brex's upgraded plans, please have your account or card admin reach out to Brex Support by clicking on Support in your dashboard.

What's new

We've recently made some changes to our spend management features which are visible in your dashboard to help you customize how and where your team spends. You’ll still have access to the same spend management features. This update won’t affect or interrupt operational spend. You can learn more about your Brex plan under Company settings or contact us by clicking Support in your dashboard.

What’s new for Essentials Essentials
  1. Budgets have been renamed “spend limits.” Aside from the name change, this spend management tool works the same and will continue to allow you to provision spend.
  2. We renamed the dashboard Budgets page to Cards and Limits. You can view users, spend limits, and cards here to easily track which spend limits have cards and how much they’ve spent.
  3. You can create dedicated types of spend limits — like user limits, vendors, or group travel—that you can filter with the Type field.
What’s new for Premium and Enterprise Premium Enterprise
  1. We’ve created a new Cards and Limits page in your dashboard. You can view users, spend limits, and cards here to track which spend limits have cards and how much they’ve spent.
  2. We’ve updated the Budgets page in your dashboard. You can view, organize, and create a budget and spend limits.
  3. Brex offers two tools for spend management: budgets and spend limits.
    1. A budget helps account admins plan and forecast future spend. You can use budgets to track spend across departments, cost centers, spend use cases, and more.
    2. A spend limit provisions spend for individuals or teams and ladder up to budget for department or team-level spend, like events or ads. Any budgets you used for spending have been changed to limits, but still work the same.
  4. Top-level budgets (or parent budgets) will remain as budgets. Budgets used for spending (or nested budgets) will become spend limits.
    1. If the budget has members, expenses directly assigned, cards directly assigned, or Brex travel trips mapped to the budget, we will create a spend limit for that budget. Specifically, we’ll nest a new spend limit under the budget with all the previous cards, expenses, and trips. This should have no impact on limits, policy requirements, or operational spend.
