## Overview

Airwallex is a global financial technology platform that Brex uses as a third‑party payment partner in certain non‑US markets.

Brex partners with Airwallex to offer the following in certain non-US markets:

- [Locally funded reimbursements ](https://www.brex.com/locally-funded-reimbursements)(LFR) in local currencies outside the US.
- Some locally funded bill pay flows in local currencies.
- Local card collections (LCC), including local autopay in certain regions.
- EU local card issuance.

## Why Brex uses Airwallex

Brex relies on regulated partners in jurisdictions outside the US to provide certain local financial services. Airwallex allows Brex to support local payouts and card collections (e.g., reimbursements, bill pay, and pay card balance) using in‑country clearing systems.

For locally funded reimbursements and bill pay, funds come from your own local bank accounts. Airwallex initiates the local transfers once your entity is verified and configured, using local rails appropriate to that country/currency.

You continue to configure everything in your Brex dashboard (entities, billing settings, reimbursement settings); Airwallex is the regulated partner that executes the payment flow.

## Completing Airwallex account opening requirements

To support local reimbursements, local bill payments, and local autopay in certain countries, we work with regulated local payment partners, like Airwallex, who are required to meet local requirements.

To prevent delays in your entity verifications, please refer to the [AWX Country-Specific Getting Started Guide](https://help.airwallex.com/hc/en-gb/sections/8352632554767-Country-Specific-Getting-Started-Guide) for specific guidance, requirements, and examples for completing Airwallex’s verifications.

You will be asked to submit documentation separately for each applicable entity/country to satisfy the requirements. All required documentation can be submitted directly in the Brex dashboard.

Once you’ve added all entities to the Team tab and each shows as “Verified” in the “Brex verification” column, select the option to edit billing settings for each entity.

**Optional:** After you add the local bank account you want to use to pay that entity’s statements, a pencil icon will appear next to “Incomplete” in the “Local billing verification” column; click this to complete the setup for all entities.

If requirements are not completed, local features dependent on that account (locally funded reimbursements, locally funded bill pay and local card collections) may be unavailable or blocked until it is resolved.

## Actioning an Airwallex RFI

A Request for Information (RFI) is Airwallex asking for additional details or documents after reviewing your submission. RFIs can occur for a variety of reasons and must be completed before the services may be used.

To action an AWX RFI, follow the steps below:

**Step 1:** Log in to your Brex dashboard.

**Step 2:** Navigate to your _Tasks_ inbox.

- Look for a task to _Complete local billing verification._
- Click _Complete Verification._

**Step 3:** Or, navigate to _Team > Entities_ and

   - Select the entity
   - Click _local billing incomplete_

**Step 4:** Follow the prompts to upload the specific documents Airwallex requested.

This triggers the Airwallex-hosted flow, where you can provide the information and documents requested by Airwallex. Airwallex will review submissions and update the status accordingly.

If the RFI is not completed or completed in a timely manner (within 30 days), local features dependent on that account (LFR, local autopay, LCC, some bill pay) may be unavailable or blocked until the RFI is resolved.

## How Airwallex verifies your local bank account

When you add a local bank account (for card collections, locally funded reimbursements, or local bill pay), Airwallex needs to verify that:

- The account exists and is active.
- The entity you verified with AWX legally owns the account.
- The account allows direct debits from Airwallex on your behalf.

After KYC is completed and your Airwallex entity is active, Airwallex typically runs one or more of the following verification steps (exact steps depend on the rail and country):

### Micro‑deposits (all supported non‑US rails)

- AWX sends two small credits in the statement/billing currency to the bank account you added.
- These deposits usually arrive within a few business days. In your bank portal, they will appear as small incoming payments from Brex’s partner (for non‑US accounts, often under Airwallex’s creditor identifiers).

### Micro‑debits (penny pulls) and mandate checks (BACS/SEPA/EFT)

- After the credits land, Airwallex may attempt to match micro‑debits using the same small amounts. This proves that direct debits from that account are permitted and that the mandate is correctly set up.
- For some jurisdictions, a mandate registration with the clearing system is required. In those cases, Airwallex records the mandate as active once the bank accepts it, and then local autopay can run.
- For CAD EFT, your bank may see Airwallex as the creditor name when these small debits are attempted. It is recommended that you [allowlist](https://www.brex.com/allowlist-authorize-brex) Brex with your bank.

### eGIRO / bank‑portal authorization (Singapore)

For Singapore local autopay, Airwallex uses eGIRO rather than micro‑deposits:

- From your Brex dashboard, you start verification and are redirected to your bank’s portal to authorize a GIRO mandate for Airwallex.
- Once you confirm the mandate in your bank portal, Airwallex receives the authorization and marks the verification complete; no micro‑deposits are sent for these accounts.

## What action is needed to verify local autopay?

What you need to do depends on which verification path applies to your account:

### If you’re asked to verify micro‑deposits:

- Watch for two small incoming credits to the bank account you added for local autopay.
- Once they arrive, go back to your Brex dashboard and:
   - Open _Accounts > External accounts_ or _Edit billing settings > Autopay > Verify_ for that entity.
   - Enter the exact amounts of both micro‑deposits when prompted.
- You have a limited number of attempts to enter the amounts correctly. If attempts are exhausted or the verification times out, Brex may need to restart the verification, which will trigger a new set of micro‑deposits.

### If your bank uses allowlisting / positive pay filters:

- Some banks block unknown debits by default. In that case, you may need to allowlist Airwallex as a trusted creditor so micro‑debits and direct‑debit mandates can succeed.
- For non‑US accounts used with local autopay, the key identifiers are:
   - BACS (GBP): Service User Number (SUN) 570836
   - SEPA (EUR): Creditor Identifier (CI) NL42000775192560000
   - EFT (CAD): Creditor name: Airwallex
- Your bank’s support team can use these IDs to[ allowlist Airwallex ](https://www.brex.com/allowlist-authorize-brex)so micro‑debits and statement payments are not blocked.

### If you’re using Singapore eGIRO:

- When setting up local autopay, use the verification/authorization button in your Brex dashboard.
- You will be redirected to your bank’s eGIRO portal; log in and approve the mandate for Airwallex as the creditor.
- If you do not see any pending eGIRO requests in your bank portal, confirm that you have no pending verifications for the entity; eGIRO requests will not complete until the underlying Airwallex account is active.

**Note:** Some Singaporean banks have additional verification steps. You should confirm if any additional verification steps are required by logging into your banking dashboard and confirming the status of the eGIRO verification after going through this redirect flow.

### If verification fails or never completes:

- Common reasons include: bank blocks on micro‑debits, incorrect entity name vs bank account name, or expired mandates.
- In these cases, Brex can usually restart the verification for your local autopay account, which disables the old attempt and triggers new micro‑deposits or a fresh eGIRO authorization flow.
- Until all Airwallex verifications succeed, your entity will remain on manual push payments, and local autopay will not run.

If you’ve completed all visible steps in your dashboard (including entering micro‑deposit amounts or completing eGIRO) and local autopay still shows as pending, please reach out to Brex Support so we can review Airwallex’s verification status and coordinate with Airwallex if needed.

## What should I do if I see an Airwallex‑related block or delay?

If you notice:

- A local reimbursement or local bill payment is not available,
- A local autopay setup is blocked, or
- You’ve provided documents but still see delays,

We recommend that you complete the following steps:

1. Check your Brex dashboard for any outstanding verification tasks under the relevant entity or reimbursement/billing sections.
2. Ensure all requested documents have been uploaded and are current (director/UBO IDs, ownership charts, registration documents, etc.).
3. If everything appears complete but you still see issues, contact Brex Support.
