Early access features on Brex
Brex regularly releases new features through a monthly early access program. You can preview and try these features early, and control which ones are active for your account.
Overview
Early access features give you early access to new capabilities, interface improvements, and workflow enhancements before they become part of the standard Brex experience. Each month, new features are added to the early access program so you can try them, share feedback, and decide what works for your team.
You manage everything from a single page in your settings — turn features on or off individually, or opt in to receive everything automatically.
Key capabilities
- Individual feature control — Turn specific early access features on or off from your settings. Each feature includes a description so you know what it does before enabling it.
- Automatic enrollment — Choose to automatically receive all new early access features as they become available in our monthly releases. You can still opt-out and manage individual features afterward if you change your mind.
- Experience updates — Opt in to interface improvements and visual updates separately from new features. These are usability enhancements that don't change core functionality.
- Reversible at any time — Most early access features are a two-way door. Turn something off and your experience reverts to the way it was before. (Some features may not be reversible and will require support. These will be clearly called out before you enable.)
Things to know
- Who can access this: All Brex customers can access the early access features page. Only admins can enable or disable early access features. Enrollment defaults vary by plan — see "How enrollment works by plan" below.
- Early access features are provided as-is. Features in early access are still being actively developed. They may contain minor issues, behave unexpectedly in certain scenarios, or be updated, changed, or removed before they become generally available. Early access features are not covered by the same service commitments as generally available features. See our Terms of Service for details.
- Monthly updates. New early access features are added on a monthly cadence. You'll receive an email summary when new features are available.
How enrollment works by plan
Your Brex plan determines how you're initially enrolled in the early access program. Regardless of your plan, you can always change your preferences from Settings > Early access features.
| Plan | How it works |
|---|---|
| Essentials, Smart Card, Embedded | You're automatically enrolled in Early Access features. You can opt out of automatic enrollment entirely from your settings and switch to individually enabled features at any time. |
| Premium | You choose which Early Access features to enable. New Premium customers are automatically enrolled and can opt out from their settings. |
| Enterprise | Early Access features are not enabled by default. Your account team will walk you through available features during implementation, and you can enable specific features as needed. |
Manage early access features in your settings
Before you begin
- You need access to your Brex account settings. Only Admins can manage early access features for the organization.
- Early access features are available on all plans. Your enrollment defaults depend on your plan (see "How enrollment works by plan" outlined above).
Turn on a specific early access feature
- Go to Settings > Early access features.
- Scroll to the Early access features section. Each available feature is listed with a name, description, and toggle.
- Find the feature you want to try and click its toggle to turn it on.
- The feature is active immediately. You can start using it right away.
Note: Read the feature description before enabling it. Each description explains what the feature does and how it changes your experience.
Turn off an Early Access feature
- Go to Settings > Early Access features.
- Find the feature you want to disable in the Early Access features section.
- Click its toggle to turn it off.
- Your experience reverts to the way it was before you enabled the feature. No data is lost.
Enable automatic enrollment
If you want to receive all early access features — both current and future — as they become available each month:
- Go to Settings > Early access features.
- In the Experience updates section at the top of the page, turn on Auto-enroll in Early access features.
- All current early access features are enabled, and new early access features will be turned on automatically as they're added each month.
Note: When automatic enrollment is on, all early access features are enabled and individual feature toggles are disabled. To manage features individually, turn off Auto-enroll in early access features first.
Enable automatic experience updates
Experience updates are interface improvements and visual enhancements that don't add new functionality.
- Go to Settings > Early access features.
- In the Experience updates section, turn on Automatic experience updates.
- You'll receive usability improvements automatically as they become available.
Opt out of automatic enrollment
If you're automatically enrolled (Essentials customers are by default) and prefer to choose features individually:
- Go to Settings > Early access features.
- Turn off Auto-enroll in early access features in the Experience updates section.
- All early access features are disabled and individual feature toggles become available.
- Scroll to the Early access features section and turn on only the features you want to use.
Note: Turning off automatic enrollment disables all early access features at once. You'll need to re-enable any features you want to keep using individually.
Verify it worked
After enabling or disabling a feature:
- The toggle reflects the current state (on or off).
- If you enabled a feature, navigate to the area of the product where the feature applies. You should see the new experience immediately.
- If you disabled a feature, the product reverts to the previous experience in that area.
Frequently asked questions
How do I know which features are in early access?
Go to Settings > Early access features. Every feature currently available in early access is listed there with a description and a toggle to turn it on or off. (Toggle will be disabled if you are opted in to all new features)
What's the difference between "Automatic experience updates" and "Auto-enroll in early access features"?
Automatic experience updates gives you the latest interface improvements and visual updates as they become available. These are usability enhancements that don't add new functionality. Auto-enroll in early access features enables all current and future early access features automatically. When this is on, individual feature toggles are disabled — it's all or nothing. To manage features individually, turn off auto-enrollment first.
What happens when an early access feature becomes generally available?
When a feature graduates from early access to general availability, it becomes the default experience for all customers. The early access toggle is removed, and the feature is on for everyone. This happens during seasonal releases.
Can I give feedback on early access features?
Yes. We welcome your feedback and it helps shape the final version of the feature before it becomes generally available.
Will early access features affect my team's workflows?
Only if you enable them. Early access features are off by default for Premium and Enterprise customers. If you're on Essentials and prefer not to use a feature, you can turn it off from your settings.
Who can control early access enrollment for the whole organization?
Admins can manage early access feature settings for their organization from Settings > Early access features. Non-admin users cannot enable early access features.
