Operations at Brex
The Operations team is the bridge between our product and our customers. Our priority is to keep our customers happy and their businesses protected, while delivering vital information back to our internal teams. We are responsible for underwriting all of our customers, while simultaneously managing Brex’s risk exposures. We work cross-functionally with Risk, Compliance, Data, and Engineering to allow Brex to scale efficiently, keeping quality top of mind.

What you’ll do
In this role you’ll lead the underwriting diligence process alongside the relationship management team for new credit opportunities to venture backed technology companies of all sizes.  You’ll partner with relationship managers to provide debt structures that meet the needs of prospects and existing portfolio companies.  You’ll be responsible for managing the credit quality of a lending portfolio and anticipate portfolio company needs by having an informed perspective on the current market environment and the various ways we can help solve capital needs. 

Responsibilities

  • Conduct underwriting analysis on new credit deals, both to structure term sheets and new credit opportunities
  • Own the internal underwriting, credit approval, legal documentation and closing processes
  • Take ownership of a growing portfolio of startup companies including ongoing monitoring, such as financial covenant checks, borrowing base analysis and credit performance 
  • Manage the credit analysis process on amendments, waivers, extensions, refinance or changes to loan agreements
  • Maintain accurate risk ratings on portfolio companies and manage portfolio reviews
  • Help develop systems and procedures to support best-in-class credit risk management

Requirements

  • 7+ years of experience in commercial lending, private credit, strategic finance, venture capital or similar roles in financial services
  • Significant reps performing diligence and financial modeling to determine creditworthiness of prospective clients
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills - including the ability to build peer-level relationships with CFO’s and CEO’s
  • Ability to flourish in a startup environment building new processes 
  • Bachelor’s or equivalent required; MBA preferred but not required

Bonus points

  • Experience in commercial lending in technology or life sciences
  • Background in data analysis and coding languages such as SQL or Python
