Legal and Compliance at Brex

The Legal team helps the company grow responsibility, advocating for Brex and for the thousands of growing businesses we serve. We provide strategic advice and guidance to all Brex teams, protect Brex, advise on risk, and represent the company externally, negotiating with partners and interacting with regulators. What you'll do

As AGC for new products at Brex, you will advise on legal requirements through the product development life cycle. You’ll counsel our product, engineering, marketing, sales, partnerships, and support teams on a range of issues related to product development and the products you support. You’ll provide strategic advice on legal risk and areas of regulatory ambiguity, collaborating with stakeholders to find creative and innovative solutions. 

Responsibilities 

  • Provide pragmatic, tactical and actionable advice on regulatory requirements for new products 
  • Draft customer agreements and terms and work closely with teams across the company to develop customer experiences and identify and resolve issues relating to the products you support 
  • Advise on product and marketing collateral, marketing claims, customer communications and disclosures 
  • Provide guidance on strategic decisions and risk, including product structuring and implementation
  • Proactively monitor and advise on implications of relevant regulations, regulatory actions and industry practices 
  • Assist with license applications for new products as needed
  • Structure, draft, and negotiate agreements with financial institutions and other partnership and commercial agreements to support our products and services

Requirements 

  • 5+ years working experience at a law firm, fintech or traditional financial services company 
  • Experience with payments, lending or card products 
  • Experience with laws and regulations applicable to a variety of financial services products and services (e.g., UDAAP / UDAP, ECOA, TILA, FCRA, TILA, EFTA and other federal and state law)
  • Experience interacting with financial institutions and federal or state regulatory agencies
  • Ability to handle multiple assignments simultaneously, thrive in a fast-paced environment, and turn work around quickly when needed 
  • Excitement for Brex’s mission and passion for fintech
  • Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Acute business sense and comfort with technology
  • Growth mindset
  • Curiosity, drive, and willingness to take ownership and drive projects to completion
  • JD and admitted to practice in at least one jurisdiction

  • Familiarity with card network rules and experience interacting with card networks
