Engineering

The Engineering team includes Data, IT, Security, and Software, and is responsible for building innovative products and infrastructure for Brex and our customers. We believe that engineers should accelerate the business through technology, and collaborate across multiple teams to accomplish that. Teams are autonomous, filled with inclusive individuals, eager to learn, teach, constantly improve how things work. The software we build today is the foundation for dozens of Brex systems in the future, so engineers have a strong sense of ownership and accountability and take pride in their craft.

What you’ll do

The Security team helps build and empower a culture of Trust at Brex by protecting our customer & corporate data and assets. The team is responsible for building internal services, libraries and tools in order to build a robust security posture, creating security awareness,  discovering vulnerabilities, detecting attacks and remediating them across the entire stack. This engineering leader will be responsible for creating and driving a strategy &  roadmap for this world-class security team.

Responsibilities

  • Build, lead, and grow successful teams, inclusive of exceptional managers and individual contributors, alongside shown commitment to recruiting great talent. Recruiting is everyone’s responsibility at Brex.
  • Establish and scale a culture of Trust through security and privacy best practices.
  • Drive technical strategy for application security, incident response, infrastructure security and security operations across the tech stack.
  • Represent the security organization as a stakeholder in cross-functional partnerships and uphold strong empathy for team members, partners, and our customers while championing the bar for Security & Trust. 
  • Help the open source security community and the fintech industry by sharing relevant work and knowledge we are building at Brex.

Requirements

  • 6+ years of senior leadership experience with a proven track record of building and leading successful security engineering teams.
  • Diverse security experience across offense & defense, blue team experience, familiarity with all parts of the security stack, and willingness to lead additional Trust functions as we grow. 
  • Experience working in a high-growth environment, recruiting extraordinary people from different backgrounds.
  • Strong and effective communication. The ability to convey complex ideas pertaining to security in a simple manner and drive teams to resolutions during discussions. 
  • Experience driving initiatives across entire engineering organizations and cross-functional teams while setting clear expectations, timelines, and direction. 
  • You lead by example and aren’t afraid to roll up your sleeves and dive into the team’s work to fill gaps as needed.
